Owner · Coach · Runs Mummy Fit
Hi, I'm Tanya, owner of The Box! From the reception desk of my village gym at 16, to member, coach and now owner.
I first started working in a gym at the age of 16, at my local village gym, working on reception. I was signing members up, checking people in and out, looking after the day-to-day running of reception and counting up the takings at the end of the night. I remember watching some of the members in absolute awe, amazed by their strength, ability and the way they pushed themselves. Little did I know back then where that journey would take me!
I've always had a background in sport, fitness, gymnastics and dance. I spent years training in a conventional gym, but after having my first baby, I realised I needed something more from my training. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was, but training alone just wasn't doing it for me anymore. I started going to some mum and baby fitness classes and quickly realised what I'd been missing. It wasn't just about the exercise, it was about being part of something.
Alongside fitness, I've always had a creative side too. I went to university to study Fashion, which probably explains why I love thinking outside the box (quite literally!). I've also spent eight years working in an accountancy practice, working closely with businesses of all sizes, including multi-million-pound businesses. It's given me a real understanding of business, finance and what goes on behind the scenes. I think having that mix of creativity, business knowledge and a genuine passion for fitness has shaped the way I approach owning and running The Box. There's a lot more to running a gym than what happens on the gym floor!
After having my babies and slowly finding my confidence again, I found The Box, and I've never looked back. I found my place, I found my people, and I found something that I didn't even realise I was looking for.
I've had some pretty special moments along the way, but competing at Strength in Depth alongside some incredible athletes is definitely up there. I wasn't the first choice, but my word, I made sure they didn't regret picking me! I worked so hard to earn my place and loved every single minute of it. I absolutely love competing as part of a team. There's something special about working together, pushing each other and being each other's biggest supporters. That's what it's all about for me.
Coaching is something I genuinely feel runs through my veins. I'm passionate, creative and enthusiastic, and I want nothing more than to see people achieve things they perhaps never thought possible. I love seeing people grow in confidence, celebrating their wins (big or small), giving a good old hug and being part of their journey.
I've gone from being a member, to a coach, to now owning The Box. None of that has happened by chance. It's taken hard work, determination, plenty of grit and a whole lot of positive energy.
I absolutely love what I do, I love the people I get to do it with, and I feel incredibly lucky that something that started when I was just 16 has brought me here. And honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way!
"Coaching is something I genuinely feel runs through my veins."
Energetic and enthusiastic! I'm passionate about giving the benefits of fitness back to people, so expect plenty of energy, lots of encouragement and a coach who remembers exactly what it's like to be starting out.
Tanya leads our Mummy Fit classes for new mums alongside Rachael. It's the class where her own fitness journey began.
Class timetableAway from the gym I'm a mum first. Becoming one is what got me properly into fitness, and it's a big part of why Mummy Fit means so much to me.
